Founded in 1980, the Trust maintains an engine house and boiler houses which drive a preserved and working 600 bhp mill steam engine, which powered 1250 Lancashire looms up to 1978. Bancroft Shed started cotton weaving in 1920. There is a small weaving area in operation. The Mill Trust is a registered charity, and is run by volunteers who are engaged in a progressive expansion programme to exhibit and explain textile processing. A small archive includes text books on weaving and fabric design; day ledgers and order books relating to Bancroft Mill covering first half of the twentieth century and photographs of the mill in work. A booklet the Bancroft Mill Engine, contains a brief history of the mill and details of working machinery.
