An early history of the cotton industry, though biassed against Arkwright and in defence of Thomas Highs, the unsung hero of Lancashire's pantheon of textile inventors, whom Guest (and others) hailed as the true inventor of Arkwright's machines. Guest's book is a fine source of information on the early industry, its key inventors and innovators and has many excellent illustrations (engravings) of the machines and processes, as well as reflecting the social changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. |
